Vaccinations for School Employees

Where to Get Vaccinated

There are three primary avenues through which school employees can access vaccines:

  1. The federal Retail Pharmacy Program.
  2. The “Get Ready” partnership between OSPI and Kaiser Permanente.
  3. Local partnerships between school districts and vaccine providers.
School employees are encouraged to use the WA COVID Vaccine Finder to find a provider with supply and availability near them.

Federal Retail Pharmacy Program

Throughout the month of March, the pharmacies participating in the federal Retail Pharmacy Program will prioritize vaccine appointments for school employees. In Washington, pharmacies participating in the federal Retail Pharmacy Program include Albertson’s/Safeway, Costco, Kroger (Fred Meyer/QFC), Walmart, Rite Aid, and Health Mart Independent Pharmacies.

Information about President Biden's Vaccine Announcement

On March 2, 2021, President Biden announced that he expects all K–12 school employees to receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before the end of March. To meet this directive, K–12 school employees were immediately moved to the currently eligible vaccination phase in Washington–Phase 1B, Tier 1, and can schedule appointments now. The state’s allocation of vaccine has increased only slightly so far, and progress is still being made to vaccinate all others eligible in the current phase. We urge school employees to remain patient, as vaccinations will be phased-in throughout the month.

OSPI/Kaiser Permanente 'Get Ready' Partnership

Superintendent Reykdal and Kaiser Permanente have partnered to announce "Get Ready," a large-scale school vaccination plan to equitably and safely vaccinate Washington educators and school staff when they become eligible under the state’s vaccination distribution plan. Kaiser Permanente will administer the vaccine through Kaiser Permanente owned and operated medical facilities. Following the announcement from President Biden, school employees are now eligible across the country to be vaccinated. With this update, OSPI and Kaiser Permanente have approval to launch the “Get Ready” program.
