This page outlines the state testing windows for 2019-20:

Learning Standards Assessed

Testing Requirements for High School Graduation

Meeting graduation standard on the high school Smarter Balanced or WA-AIM ELA and math assessments is one pathway for students to demonstrate post-secondary career or college readiness.

Participating in the assessments is necessary for state and federal accountability in ELA and math for grades 3-8 and 10 and in science at grades 5, 8, and 11.

Smarter Balanced Assessments—ELA and Math

Spring 2020

Required for federal and state accountability.

Online: March 2–June 5*

10 ELA and Math

Required for federal and state accountability for all students in grade 10.

11 & 12

ELA and Math

Available to students who have not yet passed the ELA and/or math assessment and want to use as a pathway to demonstrating post-secondary career or college readiness or who previously tested and would like to attempt a higher score.

* Smarter Balanced is administered within the last 12 weeks of the school year, but no later than June 5. For example, if the last day of school is June 5, the testing window will be March 13 - June 5, or if the last day of school is May 26, the testing window will be March 3 - May 26.

** Paper testing is available only to support large print, braille, and standard print forms for students whose IEP or 504 plan states paper.

Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science Spring 2020

Washington Access to Instruction and Measurement (WA-AIM)

Fall 2019 (Retake)

English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA21)

Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (GOLDTM by Teaching Strategies) Fall 2019

Grade(s) Subjects Requirement/Availability Testing Window
K Six areas of development and learning: social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, math, and literacy Required for students in state-funded, full-day kindergarten; available to any public school that volunteers, pending available funding (see M037-15).
