Sexual Health Education

In light of changes to Washington state requirements for comprehensive sexual health education, updates were made to the review instruments used for the Sexual Health Education Instructional Materials Review. Usually, this is done in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH). The revised instruments are designed to test more closely the alignment of instructional materials with WA state requirements (e.g. RCW 28A.300.475, AIDS Omnibus Act, Screening for Biased Content in Instruction Materials) and learning standards. Many of these revised instruments were based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool after consultation with district-level curriculum specialists.

Required Curriculum Review Tools

These review instruments must be used by districts planning to conduct their own sexual health education materials reviews rather than use OSPI-reviewed materials. Each district establishes and maintains its own instructional materials review and adoption policy and procedures, according to state law related to instructional materials. All of the following forms have been updated to reflect new legislative requirements.
