The Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award is the largest teacher recognition program in the United States.

The award was created in 1982 to reward, retain and attract the highest quality K-12 educators to the profession. Award winners receive public recognition and an unrestricted financial award of $25,000.

There is no nomination process for the Milken Award. Unsolicited recommendations will automatically disqualify an educator from consideration. A Blue Ribbon Committee independently seeks out potential Milken Educators and recommends candidates directly to the Milken Family Foundation for consideration.

Milken Educators demonstrate:

  • Exceptional educational talent as evidenced by outstanding instructional practices in the classroom, school, and profession.
  • Outstanding accomplishment and strong long-range potential for professional and policy leadership.
  • An engaging and inspiring presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues, and the community.
