From one front line to another in field of teaching (JBLM Northwest guardian)
As a swarm of students darted through the narrow hallways of Sunnyside High School in Sunnyside, Wash., math teacher and 20-year Navy veteran, Spencer Martin, kept watch from a classroom doorway.

A huge smile appears on the face of Beachwood Elementary School student Gabby Olter as she talks about two topics that rarely bring a smile to anyone’s face – long division and double digit multiplication.

Veteran not done making a difference
The rhythmic beat of rubber soles as they hit the pavement coupled with the noise of his own exhausted breathing were the only sounds Seaman Recruit Scott Winter could hear as he reached the last leg of a two and a half mile run. His waning concentration was suddenly broken by the sound of his company commander’s voice shouting, “You can do it Winter.” That encouragement he received during the Fall of 1982 is the same thing he strives to give every student that walks through the doors of his classroom at Cedar Park Christian School in Bothell, Washington.
