School Psychologist Reissue and Renewal Applicant

This page contains reissue and renewal information for Educational Staff Associates (ESA) who hold Residency and Professional Certificates.

School Psychologist Residency Requirements

Multiple types of applications are available for educators who are reissuing or renewing their Residency ESA Certificate. See below for more information on each option.

For information on moving to the second-tier certificate, see the Upgrade to the Professional webpage.

Reissue

If you have completed two years of service in an ESA role while on your Residency First Issue Certificate.

  • Must complete two years IN THE ROLE specific to their certificate in Washington
    OR
  • Hold a Residency ESA Certificate originally issued with a five-year expiration date but did not complete two consecutive years of successful service IN THE ROLE and return for a third in Washington. The certificate may be reissued with no defined expiration date. Contact our office for further information regarding this process.
  • Must submit fingerprints for a background check if a valid certificate is not already on record

The reissued certificate is valid for five years

NOTE: Serving in the role for any time within a single school year, counts as a full year of service to meet reissuance requirements.

Example: If a school psychologist serves for one day or more of the 2021-2022 school year, that counts as one of the two years of service in the role.
