K-12 Writing Learning Standards
This document provides all educators, parents, and community members access to essential academic learning requirements (EALRs) to ensure all students achieve writing success. Teachers can use the grade level expectations (GLEs) with Evidence of Learning statements as starting points to design instruction and to guide ongoing classroom-based formative and summative assessments.

The Grade Level Standards & Resources Web site provides quick access to all content standards along with aligned resources to support curriculum development, instructional practices, and assessment of student learning.

New Learning Standards – Washington formally adopted the
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts and mathematics on July 20, 2011. Students will continue to be tested on Washington’s 2005 reading and writing standards, and on the 2008 mathematics standards through the 2013-14 school year. Assessments for these newly adopted standards will be piloted in 2013 and operational in the 2014-15 school year.

Instructional Modules
OSPI, in collaboration with educators, provides Instructional Support Modules for the purpose of improving student writing. These lessons were developed and field tested by Washington teachers.
