Youth Safety – Additional Resources

These resources provide educators, families and students with information on a variety of safety-related topics. Additional resources will be added as they either come to our attention or become available.

Alcohol: Let’s Draw the Line Information on laws, action steps, tips for parents and other facts to draw the line between youth and alcohol. Also visit Start Talking Now, the Washington State Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking site to help families and educators set clear rules about alcohol use.

Driving: AAA Washington KEYS2Drive The AAA guide to teen driver safety provides a quick look at the information and tools to help families and teens move through the learning-to-drive process.

Drugs: Drug Awareness & Abuse: The National Institutes of Health provides information drugs, drug use and abuse.

Tobacco: Youth Tobacco Prevention Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with educational materials and resources, including videos, tip sheets and posters.

Unsafe School Choice Option: The United States Department of Education (USDOE), through the authorization of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), required states to develop a method of identifying a persistently unsafe school (Section 9532, H.R. 1, NCLB). OSPI recently completed this process and has made available the following information on the Washington State School Safety Center Web site. The purpose of the Safety Center is to provide relevant information and resources to assist schools, parents and students on the broad range of safe schools issues.
