Performance Level Descriptors Training for Grades 3-8
The Mathematics Assessment Office will offer training to educators in Grades
3-8 the use of Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs).
What are Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs)?
PLDs are descriptions of the levels of knowledge and skills necessary for
students to achieve specific performance levels on the state assessment.
How are PLDs Used?
PLDs and Standard Setting are critical components of the Washington
Comprehensive Assessment Program. Standard Setting is the method used to
determine the “cut scores” on the state assessments that correspond to each
performance level. Teachers who have completed the PLD
training will be eligible to participate in the Contrasting Groups Study for
Standard Setting.
