Teacher of the Year
Each year, Washington's Teacher of the Year program recognizes one State
Teacher of the Year and nine Regional Teachers of the Year. The State Teacher of
the Year is considered for the National Teacher of the Year program.

Previous Teachers of the Year
The Washington State Teacher of the Year is chosen by the Teacher of the Year
Selection Committee from a slate of ten Regional Teachers of the Year - one from
each of our Educational Service Districts and one from Washington's Tribal
Schools. The Selection Committee's decision is based on a written application and
interviews with each candidate. The State Selection Committee is guided by the
selection rubric. Some of the regions may use this rubric for their selection as
well. For more information on your region's selection process please contact
your regional coordinator.
Anyone can submit a nomination using our online nomination form. Completed nominations are forwarded to the nominee and the appropriate regional coordinator. Nominated teachers are invited to complete the written application to compete for their regional award.
- Travel the state and their regions to share their expertise with
community groups, businesses, government officials and future
teachers.
- Identify and advocate for educational issues of particular
interest to them.
- Receive small cash awards and additional prizes in
recognition of their achievements.
- Attend all National Teacher of the Year program activities, including a
national leadership conference, the national week of recognition
in Washington, D.C.
- Attend Space Camp!
