The Center for the Improvement of
Student Learning (CISL) convened an advisory committee
to develop a strategic plan to address the achievement gap
for African American students as outlined in HB 2722.
The
committee:
● Examined
detailed data on achievement.
● Examined
current federal, state, school and community-based
initiatives intended to improve student learning.
● Identified
best/promising practices specifically for African-American
students.
● Developed
a comprehensive plan including strategies, programs and
interventions, with funding necessary for implementation.
● Developed
educational performance measures and improvement benchmarks
to monitor progress of the strategic plan.
● Presented
a draft report by September 15, 2008 and a
final report by
December 30, 2008, to the superintendent of public
instruction, the state board of education, the governor, the
P-20 council, and the education committees of the
legislature.
CISL
will provide an annual report beginning in 2010 on the
implementation strategies and the improvement of education
performance measures of African-American students.
