To Apply for a Conditional ESA Certificate (Second Issue)

Requirements

For School Nurses and Speech Language Pathologists or Audiologists only:

School Nurse: The candidate possesses a state of Washington license as a registered nurse.
Speech Language Pathologist or Audiologist: The candidate has completed a baccalaureate degree in speech pathology or audiology.

Screening: The ESD or local school district superintendent or approved private school administrator must verify the following criteria have been met:

  • The applicant meets one of the above conditions for application.
  • The individual is being certificated for a limited assignment and responsibility in a specified activity/field.
  • The district or ESD superintendent or private school administrator indicates the basis on which he/she has determined that the individual is competent for the assignment.

Renewal:

  • School Nurse certificate may be reissued for two years on submission of a new application and evidence that requirements continue to be met, and upon completion of 60 clock hours (six quarter or four semester hours) or course work since the issuance of the most recent certificate, as verified by the employer. The course work must be designed to support the participant's professional growth and enhance the participant's instructional knowledge or skills.
  • School Speech Language pathologist or audiologist certificate may be reissued once for two years if enrolled in and completing satisfactory progress in a master's degree program which will lead to initial ESA certification, and upon completion of 60 clock hours (six quarter or four semester hours) or course work since the issuance of the most recent certificate, as verified by the employer. The course work must be designed to support the participant's professional growth and enhance the participant's instructional knowledge or skills.
