For Those Who Hold An Initial CTE Certificate

An initial career and technical educator teacher certificate enables the holder to teach in a career and technical education (vocational) classroom in the specific specialty area listed on the certificate.

If you hold a INITIAL CTE CERTIFICATE you have the following options:

• Renew an Initial CTE Teacher Certificate
• Apply for a Continuing CTE Teacher Certificate

Candidate must

• Hold a valid initial CTE certificate to renew

Candidate must have completed 3 quarter hours or 30 clock hours of CTE educator training in the subject matter certified to teach since the issuance of the MOST RECENT initial certificate

Candidates are limited to two renewals of the initial CTE certificate.

The candidate must have completed all requirements for the initial CTE teacher certificate, PLUS...

The candidate must:

• Have completed at least 9 quarter hours or 90 clock hours of CTE educator training in the CTE subject matter, completed subsequent to the conferral of the baccalaureate degree or issuance of the initial certificate
• Provide documentation of completion of two years of teaching/coordination in the CTE subject matter , completed subsequent to the conferral of the bachelor degree or issuance of the initial certificate
• Provide documentation of completion of two years of teaching/coordination in the CTE subject matter certified to teach with an authorized employer (i.e. school districts or skills centers)
