
Candidate meets the requirements for an initial CTE teacher certificate.
College/University Route:
- The candidate must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
- The candidate must have completed a state-approved teacher preparation program in one of the following five specialty areas: Agriculture Education, Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Marketing Education, and Technology Education.
- The candidate must demonstrate competency in one or more of these five endorsement areas, and
- The candidate must document one year (2,000 hrs) of paid occupational experience in the specific CTE subject area for which certification is sought. If any of the 2,000 hrs is more than 6 yrs old, 300 hrs of the experience must be within the past 2 yrs.
Business and Industry Route:
- Have complete a Washington Professional Educator Standards Board-approved program for the business and industry route, and
- Document 3 yrs (6,000 hrs) of paid occupational experience in the specific CTE subcategory/specialty area for which certification is sought. One year (2,000 hrs) must be within the past 6 yrs. If any of the 2,000 hrs is more than 6 yrs old, 300 hrs of the experience must be within the past 2 yrs.
