Superintendent Continuing Administrator Certificate
(valid for five-year periods)

Qualified applicants for Superintendent certificate can anticipate two levels of certification during their career, Initial and Continuing. They can also apply for a substitute administrator certificate.


The Continuing Administrator Certificate is the advanced level superintendent's certificate.

The candidate must have:

  • Completed all requirements for the Initial Superintendent's Certificate
  • A master's degree, plus 60 quarter hours (40 semester hours) of graduate level coursework in education completed after the baccalaureate degree
    OR a doctorate in education.
  • Hold a valid teacher, educational staff associate, program administrator or principal certificate; excluding limited certificates issued under WAC 181-79A-231, or comparable out-of-state certificates.

Experience Requirement:

  • 180 days of service as a superintendent, deputy superintendent or assistant superintendent, 30 days of which must have been in the same school district.
