Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL)

The Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) was given as the state’s primary assessment from spring 1997 to summer 2009. It has been replaced by the grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) and the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE).

The WASL will be last administered Aug. 10-13. Results of the summer WASL will be available by late October 2009.

To be eligible for a high school diploma, students must pass a state assessment. This is a requirement of the state’s Education Reform Law of 1993 and the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
