Item and Point Totals: 2012 Administration
The grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) and High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE), first given in spring 2010, are shorter in reading, math and science than the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). It will take one session (generally two hours) to administer each test. For now, the format of the writing MSP and HSPE are the same as the former WASL writing exam (two days, two sessions).
The End-of-Course (EOC) exams for mathematics were first administered in spring 2011. An EOC exam for biology replaces the science HSPE in spring 2012. The EOC exams are intended to be administered to intact classrooms over three days. The approximate 150 minute administration time includes 30 minutes for directions/distributing materials.
The MSP and HSPE reading, math and science tests no longer include 4-point extended response questions. Below is a chart that lists how many 1-point items (multiple choice and completion) and 2-point items (short-answer) are included on each test by subject and grade.
