The Writing office at OSPI provides guidance for the development and implementation of Washington learning standards and oversees assessments required by federal and state laws and regulations.

Learning Standards
The Writing Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) and Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) describe what students should know and be able to do.

Assessments
The state assessment is designed to help schools and districts determine whether students have met the writing learning standards. Annotated Anchor Sets are available for teachers to use as an instructional tool.

Instructional Modules
