Diagnostic Assessment Guide

  • Washington State Diagnostic Assessment Guide (PDF)
This guide defines the different types of assessments. It provides guidance on how to select appropriate assessments for instructional purposes.
  • Formative Assessment Comparative Guide – Consumer Report (PDF)
This document is a companion to the Washington State Diagnostic Assessment Guide. Together, these documents are intended to help educators, schools, and school districts select and use diagnostic and formative assessment tools in supporting student learning in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics and science. Please note: This document is based on information available in January 2009. The details about a vendor may no longer be accurate. We recommend visiting the National Center on Response to Intervention for additional information on diagnostic and formative assessment tools.
  • In addition, the technical reports for each subject area provide detailed information regarding the validity and reliability of each assessment included in the Consumer Report.
