RTI Action Network

RTI in Pre-kindergarten
Articles and resources in this section provide information on key components of Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks in preschool settings, how they relate to RTI in K-12 settings, examples of early models in the field, as well as resources for planning for implementation and policy recommendations.

The Roadmap to Pre-K RTI
Offers an explanation of how the essential components of RTI: universal screening and progress-monitoring with research-based and tiered interventions can be applied in preschool settings. The Roadmap includes an outline for implementing a program-wide model of RTI in early childhood settings and a readiness checklist. The Fidelity of Implementation Program Level Rubric is available to download.

Center for RTI in Early Childhood (CRTIEC)
The mission of the Center is to provide resources that support the application of Response to Intervention in early childhood settings. The Web site identifies the guiding principles of RTI and offers interventions for language and early literacy.  

Recognition and Response (R&R)
Recognition and Response is an early childhood model of RTI. The website provides educators with information and resources to help address the needs of young children who show signs that they may not be learning in an expected manner.

Response to Intervention as it relates to Early Intervening Services: Recommendations from the Council for Exceptional Children
This article outlines the four elements of RTI: 1) three tiers of intervention, 2) use of assessment to guide instruction, 3) use of research-based curriculum, and 4) collaborative problem solving.

Behavior

Technical Assistance Center for Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI)
This Web site offers free products and resources to view, download and use. Information is provided on the Pyramid Model, a framework for supporting social competence and preventing challenging behavior in young children. The six steps of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) are identified. PBS implementation strategies, resources, case studies and six training modules are provided.

Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL)
This Web site includes the Pyramid Model for promoting social and emotional competence in infants and young children. Each module is available to purchase for $20 and includes Power Point presentations, handouts, and video clips. Training modules in Spanish are also available.

There are four preschool training modules: 1) Promoting Children’s Success: Building Relationships and Creating Supportive Environments, 2) Social-Emotional Teaching Strategies, 3) Individualized Interventions—Determining the Meaning of Challenging Behavior and Developing a Behavior Support Plan, 4) Leadership Strategies for Supporting Children’s Social and Emotional Development and Addressing Challenging Behavior.

Three infant/toddler training modules are also available: 1) Social Emotional Development within the Context of Relationships, 2) Responsive Routines, Environments and Strategies to Support Social Emotional Development, 3) Individualized Interventions—Determining the Meaning of Behavior and Developing Appropriate Responses.

Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood
