Education of Homeless Children and Youth

The Washington State Education of Homeless Children and Youth office at OSPI oversees the federal McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program. The program provides training, technical assistance, and monitoring, as well as federal funding to support school district programs that serve homeless students. Washington receives approximately $950,000 in funding each year from the U.S. Department of Education in support of this program. This federal funding is the only money specifically designated for serving the educational needs of Washington’s 32,539 homeless students.*
