at OSPI oversees the federal McKinney Education for Homeless Children and Youth program, also known as "McKinney-Vento." The program provides federal funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs that serve homeless students. Washington receives approximately $850,000 in funding each year from McKinney-Vento. Competitive grants are offered annually with awards going to districts with the greatest need. This federal funding is the only money specifically designated for serving homeless students.
