Regulations

Policy/Procedure
The Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) has drafted a sample highly capable program policy and procedure. The WSSDA procedure document must be modified to reflect each district’s local program and to meet all requirements set in WAC 392-170. The document is a template only and districts must insert their unique procedures for identification, selection, and serving HCP students.

Gifted Education Specialty Endorsement
Specialty endorsements prepare a teacher candidate to work with a specific student population, demographic and/or subject matter area, and are created to help candidate teachers specialize beyond the required certificate endorsements. Specialty endorsements have unique endorsement competencies not found in any of the existing endorsements. Teachers working in the highly capable program are not required to hold this specialty endorsement.
