Student Health Insurance Pilot
In February 2008, the Washington State Legislature and the Governor signed Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 5100, now RCW 28A.210.375.

This bill instructs the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in coordination with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to solicit up to six school districts to participate in a Student Health Insurance Pilot project (i.e.; pilot project).

The pilot districts are to inquire whether a student has health insurance as a part of the enrollment process. This bill also directs school districts to develop a list of students without health insurance for the purpose of sharing this information with local outreach organizations. Outreach organizations are then asked to contact families and assist them to enroll on a medical program.
