Washington Achievement Award
The Washington Achievement Award is based on the Washington Achievement Index. The award celebrates schools for Overall Excellence and special recognition in:
- Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Extended Graduation Rate
- Closing Achievement Gaps
- High-Progress (Title I eligible or participating schools only)
The Washington Achievement Award is based on statewide assessment data for the three previous years. This data is analyzed using the
Accountability Index and criteria from the Elementary and Secondary Education
Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver. Award winners are selected using an
award methodology.
Just as students in a classroom must excel in many subjects to become truly accomplished, schools must achieve on many different levels, in different subject areas and with different populations. The Washington Achievement Awards celebrate each of those victories with our schools.
By lifting up our most successful schools the Washington Achievement Award shines a light on the best practices that are making that success possible.
Award winners receive a banner and acrylic award to proudly display in their buildings. OSPI and SBE host an annual award ceremony in the spring at an award winning school.
Award winning schools are selected using many data points including performance vs. peers, performance of low income students and
other sub groups and improvement from the previous year.
Not every school that is working hard will be recognized every year, but all schools can use the Achievement Index to give them an accurate picture of where they fall on the spectrum of achievement.
