Student Support
Gains in academic achievement do not occur simply because classroom time is filled with high-quality instruction, although that most critical element plays an enormous role. Students must also feel the impact of well-designed academic and behavior programming that enriches learning, and builds positive habits of mind and ways of being in the world. At Evergreen Heights, these programs are richly varied and well executed.
Learning Activities Augment Classroom-based Instruction
- Daily walk-to-math and walk-to-reading (intervention and enrichment activities in small, grade-level groups) with highly-qualified instructional staff
- Think Time program that works to modify behavior. Take a look at a Think Time form.
- Self-Manager award and monthly recognition awards for positive behavior
- Staff mentor individual students with unique needs
- Struggling students take advantage of a weekly meeting with the guidance team
- Student greeter program
- Homework club that meets at lunch time, and before and after school
- Web-based — IXL, EDM— programs for practice at home
- Accelerated Reader program that builds incentives into reading activities

We Can Make the Connection
In the Nine Characteristics of High-Performing Schools, school environment plays an enormous role in student achievement — personal and academic — as does the shared effort of the adult community, in all its aspects. The open door and the generosity of the people who create a school environment in which engagement can flourish, such as Evergreen Heights, provide this element as essential to the alchemy that leads to personal-best student performance at the school desk, in the halls, in the playground and at home.
