Funding
General building funds, Title I and special education programs fund a significant portion of Garfield’s operating budget. However, state and federal funding alone would keep many programs at the idea stage if it were not for dollars that come in through the local community as levy dollars.
On the list of valuable resources, Garfield looks to its teachers and Title I staff (who include a math and literacy coach), special education teachers and the educators who deliver the Reading Recovery program. As a team, they create an effective and coherent program of layered intervention, group instruction, one-to-one tutoring and comprehensive assessment. Principal Clint Price also points to the valuable contributions of Garfield’s central office staff who produce curricular guides and handle the data management responsibilities.
