The Thornton Creek program is an alternative elementary school that integrates practices from Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound (ELOB) into all aspects of the school culture, targeting curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school organization. Thornton Creek thrives because of its program design, a committed staff, and a high degree of parent and community support.

Thornton Creek's mission supports and encourages the development of a school community that:
