The Academic Improvement Award is administered by OSPI and supported through federal funding in compliance with No Child Left Behind.

How are recipients selected for the Academic Improvement Award?
Plaques and corresponding brass plates are presented to schools and districts that have made a 10 percent reduction in the percentage of students not meeting the mathematics, reading or writing standard on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) over the past year. Schools are recognized for each grade of achievement.

Does the school have to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) to qualify?
No. Awards are given regardless of AYP status.
