K-3 Demonstration Projects in Washington State
PROJECT COMPLETED
In 2007, the Washington State Legislature authorized and appropriated funds to support three K-3 Demonstration Projects. Each district received $507,833 for the 2007-08 school year and the same amount during 2008-09 for implementation. The schools selected by their districts to implement demonstration projects were:
- Barge-Lincoln (Yakima)
- Bemiss (Spokane)
- White Center Heights (Seattle)
The funds were allocated to specifically support the following school-level demonstration project activities:
- Implementation of a full-day kindergarten program
- Class sizes at a ratio of one teacher to 18 students, and the additional resources for materials generated by that ratio through associated nonemployee-related costs
- A one-half full-time equivalent instructional coach
- Professional development related to program implementation
