Clock Hour Information for NBCT

OSPI gives 90 clock hours to National Board Certification candidates and teachers. These are offered in two allotments:

  • The first 45 clock-hour-allotment is offered to National Board candidates upon “completion” of the National Board process. NBPTS sends a list of “completers” to OSPI after scoring takes place during the summer. This list is sent by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in early September. This is a special report NBPTS puts out just for Washington State for the sole purpose of sending out the first 45 clock hours.
  • The second 45-clock-hour allotment is given upon certification, sometime before December 31. Teachers who hold a valid Residency certificate cannot use clock hours to maintain a residency certificate. Salary Advancement based on clock hours is determined by the employer.
