Certificates you may apply for if you have completed an out-of-state teacher preparation program.
This list contains full and limited teaching certificates. Limited certificates must be initiated by a state of Washington employer on behalf of the educator who is not eligible for full certification.
Pre-Residency Clearance - Select this if you are currently completing your teacher preparation program.
Residency Teacher - Select this if you have completed a teacher preparation program or have held a full teaching certificate in another state.
Professional Teacher - Select this if you have held a second tier certificate from an approved state or if you are National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certified.
Career and Technical Education - Select this if you are interest in becoming certified in Career and Technical Education.
Substitute Teacher - Select this if you have completed a teacher preparation program.
Conditional Teacher - Select this if you are working with an employer that wants to hire you for a position based upon your experience and expertise in a specific educational area.
Emergency Teacher - Select this if you are working with an employer and have completed your bachelor’s degree, but have not yet completed your teacher preparation program.
Intern Substitute Teacher - Select this if you are student teaching and your employer needs you to substitute for your mentor teacher in their absence.
Emergency Substitute Teacher - Select this if you are working with an employer that wants you to be available for substitute teaching on an emergency basis.
Non Immigrant Exchange - Select this if you are a visiting teacher applicant coming to teach on a J-1 visa through OSPI’s International Education Exchange and Visiting Teacher programs.
Foreign Trained Applicants - Select this if you have completed a teacher preparation program at an institution in a country outside of the United States.
Limited certificate. If an educator is eligible to hold a full Teaching certificate, then they would not qualify for any of the Limited certificates.
