*Mathematics: Beginning in Spring 2011, students take end-of-course exams, based on the 2008 Standards, in Algebra I/Integrated I and Geometry/Integrated II. Students in the classes of 2013 and 2014 must pass one end-of-course math exam to meet the mathematics graduation requirement. Students in the class of 2015 and beyond must pass two end-of-course math exams to meet the mathematics graduation requirement. Students in middle school who take Algebra I/Integrated I or Geometry/Integrated II will take the grade-level state MSP assessment (for NCLB purposes) and the appropriate end-of-course exam.

**Science: Beginning in Spring 2012, students will take the biology end-of course exam, based on the 2009 standards. Students in the class of 2015 and beyond must pass the biology end-of-course exam to meet the science graduation requirement.

All students are tested on the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE), the End-of-Course Exams, the grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) or the Washington Alternate Assessment System-Developmentally Appropriate Proficiency Exam (WAAS-DAPE) or the Washington Alternate Assessment System-Portfolio.

In spring 2012. Many schools will test online in grades 3-8 in reading, mathematics and science.

2012 State Testing Schedule (Summary)

HSPE, EOC, MSP
All students are tested on the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) and the grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) during the spring. All students in grade 10 or students in certain credit bearing math and science courses are tested on the End-of-Course.

Basic (HSPE, EOC, MSP)
Basic is an option for students receiving special education services. Basic cannot be used for federal accountability (AYP); at the high school level the HSPE and EOC Basic can be used to meet state graduation requirements.

WAAS-DAPE
The Washington Alternate Assessment System-Developmentally Appropriate Proficiency Exam is an option for 11th and 12th grade students receiving special education services.

WAAS-Portfolio
The Washington Alternate Assessment System-Portfolio is an option for students in grades 3-8 and high school who are receiving special education services.

WELPA
Placement Test

The Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment Placement Test is used to determine initial student eligibility for English language development (ELD) services. The Placement Test is given to all students whose families answer "Yes" to question #2 on the Home Language Survey: “Is your child’s first language a language other than English?” Students must be tested within ten days of attendance (kindergartners may be tested no sooner than May 1st, before beginning school).

Annual Test The Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment is given to all students who qualified for ELD services with a Placement test. It measures students’ growth in English language knowledge and skills. Results of this test determine which students are eligible to continue to receive ELD services.
