Washington Alternate Assessment System (WAAS)

Dynamic Learning Maps

OSPI is accepting teacher applications until January 28th for work on extending the Reading and Mathematics Common Core Standards. Extending the standards and developing vertically aligned activities will be done in collaboration with 12 other states who are all members of the Dynamic Learning Maps Consortium. This consortium was recently awarded a federal grant for the purpose of developing an alternate assessment model based on the Common Core Standards for students with significant cognitive challenges. This new assessment is scheduled to be implemented in 2014-2015. Between now and the implementation of the new alternate assessment model, Washington teachers are being solicited to work with the other consortium states’ teachers to assist in English Language Arts and mathematics activities within the grade spans: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and High School.

Teachers who are interested in the project are encouraged to read the grant’s abstract and to complete the Dynamic Learning Maps Application.
